Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Sometimes we need a little help getting out of our own way.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) combines psychotherapy with the carefully supported use of ketamine. We collaborate with ketamine-prescribing medical providers to support people experiencing depression, PTSD, anxiety, and patterns that have been difficult to shift through other forms of treatment.
KAP can offer an opportunity to step outside familiar ways of thinking and responding, opening space for new perspectives, greater self-awareness, and meaningful change.
At Orange Door Collaborative, the medicine is only one part of the process. Our approach includes preparation, the therapeutic relationship, the ketamine experience itself, and integration afterward, with attention to both mind and body throughout the work.
What is KAP?
Ketamine is a medication that has been used in medical settings for decades and is increasingly being used in mental health treatment.
During KAP, ketamine may create some distance from familiar ways of thinking and responding. For some people, this can make it possible to approach difficult emotions, memories, or internal experiences with greater openness and curiosity.
Your therapist remains present throughout the experience to provide therapeutic support and help create a safe and responsive environment for the work.
Who might benefit?
Who might benefit?
KAP may be considered for adults experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD or traumatic stress, persistent emotional patterns that have been difficult to shift, grief, significant life transitions, or a sense of feeling stuck despite previous therapeutic work.
KAP is not appropriate for everyone. You also don't need to know whether KAP is the right approach before reaching out.
We begin by understanding what is bringing you here and whether KAP might be a meaningful part of your care.
What does the process look like?
Consultation
We begin with a conversation about what brings you to KAP, what you hope might change, and whether this approach is a good fit for you.
Preparation
Before working with ketamine, you meet with your therapist to develop the therapeutic relationship, explore intentions, understand what to expect, and prepare for the experience.
Medicine Session
Ketamine is prescribed and medically managed by an independent qualified medical provider. Your OrangeDoor Collaborative therapist remains with you during the KAP session to provide psychotherapy and therapeutic support.
Integration
The work doesn't end when the medicine session ends.
Integration creates space to explore what emerged, what feels meaningful, and how the experience might begin to influence your life outside the therapy room.
When helpful, integration may also connect you with other therapeutic, body-based, or experiential practices that support the work you are already doing.
The Orange Door Collaborative Approach
The Orange Door Collaborative Approach
Orange Door Collaborative specializes in the treatment of traumatic stress and recognizes that our experiences affect more than our thoughts. They shape our emotions, relationships, nervous systems, and how we experience ourselves in our bodies.
Our approach to KAP grows from this same understanding.
We pay attention not only to what happens during the ketamine experience, but also to what happens before and after it: the relationship, the body, the meaning you make from the experience, and how what emerges becomes part of your life.
KAP may stand on its own or become one part of a broader process of care.
Individual + Group KAP
Orange Door Collaborative offers KAP through individual work and small-group experiences.
Each creates a different therapeutic environment and opportunity for connection, reflection, and integration. We can help you determine which approach may be most supportive for you.
